In this awesome post I will be talking about one of the places that I enjoyed the most which I can risk to say that it’s one of my favorite destinations so far apart from my all-time favorite Lisbon.

Phuket is Thailand’s largest Island which is often referred as the Pearl of the Andaman Sea. As you already know it’s one of the most popular destinations in the world specially in Southeast Asia and I believe that I don’t need to tell you why. Phuket has some of Thailand’s most popular beaches, mostly situated along its coastline featuring long stretches of sandy beach and crystal clear waters. The island is home to many high-end seaside resorts, spas and restaurants, resuming it’s a paradise on earth.

Best time to visit Phuket

There’s a lot of contradiction when it comes to ‘’ The best time to visit Phuket’’  in my opinion anytime is the right or best time to visit this awesome island, I believe it’s more related with which type of traveler or tourist  you are, for instance if you are the type of person who prefers less crowded places where you can enjoy the place without the interference of lot of people, the months of January and February are not for you because these are the peak travel months for the entire Thailand specially the islands. But if you are the opposite of what I stated before these months are the best for you because you can meet new people, learn new cultures, party and maybe meet your future husband or wife…who knows?

In the other hand the rainy season starts from April to October. But from my personal experience only rains in the mid-day or in the beginning of the evening for only a few minutes so it’s not a big deal and the best thing about this seasons is that the hotel rates, plane tickets, tours packages are relatively cheap so why not?

Getting to and from Phuket

One of the best attributes of this amazing island is that it has its own international airport. Which makes things a lot easier because it has direct flights from the major hubs in the world such as Dubai (Fly Emirates), Doha (Qatar Airways), and Addis Ababa (Ethiopian Airlines) and so on. In addition some low cost airlines such as Air Asia also fly to Phuket but you need to depart from an Asian country.

How to get from the airport to the city

At Phuket International Airport you can take a taxi or a mini-van outside of the airport terminal. I will focus on the mini-van which is the best way to save money, the mini-vans cost around 180 Thai Bahts which is equivalent to around 6 USD and it will take from the airport to your hotel in Patong with a short stop at a travel agency( owner of the mini-van) where you will write your hotel names, you may wonder why do you need to pass by a travel agency, don’t worry I will tell you why, most of the drivers don’t speak English like most of the locals so in the travel agency you will find someone who speak english and will be able to communicate with you properly and collect your hotel names.

In addition you can go to Phuket through Krabi, so if you prefer this journey you will have fly to krabi airport and then go to the marina to take a boat/ferry to Phuket.

Where to stay in Phuket

From my personal experience the best place to stay is somewhere near Patong Beach because it’s within easy reach from of all the main attractions, beach life and nightlife so it depends mostly on your budget and the type of traveler or tourist you are because you can find many options from the high-end resorts to hostel or guest houses so it’s up to you to choose the one that is more suitable to your wallet, you can search some hotels here

Phuket’s top attractions

Phuket is a place where you’ll never be bored or run out of things to do and see.

Big Buddha

The Big Buddha is 45 meters tall, I can risk to say that is one most iconic landmarks of Phuket, and it attracts a huge number of visitors every year. This monument is located on Nakkerd Hills between Chalong and Kata, and it owns some of the best panoramic views of Phuket including the coast and beaches. So if you have a chance to visit this paradise on earth don’t lose the chance to see the Big Buddha and enjoy the panoramic views.

Wat Chalong

Wat Chalong is the largest temple in Phuket. This colorful building is highly decorated with numerous images of the Buddha, along with imagery from Buddhist and Thai mythology. Wat Chalong houses many Buddhist statues, with the most revered being Poh Than Jao Wat, located in the westerly old hall of the temple. So don’t miss this one if you like the Buddhist mythology or even if you are a curious I believe that it worth a visit.

Islands around Phuket

Like the majority of people think, the gorgeous islands like Koh Phi Phi, James Bond and so on are not located in Phuket itself but luckily they are very close and can be reached easily by speedboats or ferries, most of them are within one hour distance by speedboat and two by ferry but the downside of the ferry is that you cannot swim, snorkel and so on, only sightseeing. In the other hand by speedboat you can do everything that I mentioned before and much more so it’s up to you which one is better for you.

Phang Nga Bay

Phang  Nga Bay is one of the most beautiful places and to enjoy the trip to the fullest I advise a boat trip because along the way you can enjoy the gorgeous limestone landscapes and its beautiful turquoise waters.

James Bond Island

James Bond Island is one of the most famous place in Phang Nga bay, It first found its way onto the international tourist map through its starring role in the James Bond movie 'The Man with the Golden Gun'. making it as a must see and you can make your experience even better if you stop by the beautiful beaches along the way.

Koh Phi Phi

Koh Phi Phi or Phi Phi Islands are the most famous islands in Thailand especially Phuket, Koh phi phi is divided into two which are:

Phi Phi Don

Phi Phi Don is the main island where most visitors head to because there you can find many clubs, beaches, etc.

This place is more visited by young people because they can party all night, they can mingle, in other words they can have a good time.( Check the video)

Phi Phi Leh

In the other hand Phi Phi Leh is a bit quieter. This is the place that appears in your mind when you think about Phuket it also the first result when you search for Phuket on google especially because of the Maya Bay and the awesome caves. Maya Bay was the setting for the movie ‘’The Beach’’ starring Leonardo DiCaprio (2000). (Check the video)

Khai Nai Island

Khai Islands are located 10 km east of Phuket. It consists of three small islands. Khai Nai Island is the biggest island and has a beautiful white beach with crystal clear emerald green water good for swimming and snorkelling and it has plenty of tropical fish swimming around in the shallow water waiting to be fed.( Check the video)

Phuket’s beaches

Phuket is a place featuring gorgeous sandy beaches and crystal clear waters.

Patong beach is the main center of action in Phuket whether you are looking for water activities, nightlife or just relax and enjoy the great atmosphere this is the perfect place for you and the best of all it is family friendly. So if you like gorgeous beaches, nice people, don’t miss Patong.

This is the perfect place if you like beach clubs, bars and the best of all, it is located near Patong beach , to make this even more interesting, in this place you will find the Surin and Bang Tao beaches which have a great atmosphere.

Kata and Karon Beaches

For a more relaxed experience, you can go to the beautiful sands of Kata and Karon beaches. These are some of the best beaches on the island, and there is a lot of activities going on there to keep you entertained.

Nightlife in Phuket

Phuket has beaches, views and of course nightlife which is the main attraction of this amazing island.

Bangla Road

You can’t talk about nightlife without mentioning Bangla Road because this is a place where all the action takes place after the sun goes down in Phuket. Late-night bars pump out music from huge nightclubs such as the world class Illuzion, etc.  I don’t have enough words to describe this place, In my personal opinion this is a beating heart of nightlife in Phuket.  What amazes me the most is the fact that this is a very safe place taking into consideration what happens in this place. This is one of those places that you need to see by yourself to feel the vibe of this nightlife paradise.( Check The video)

Kata Nightlife

If you prefer a more relaxed and calm environment I advise you to go to Kata Hill overlooking Kata Noi Beach, where you will find small bars and there you can watch the sunset while drinking.

Food in Phuket

In Phuket you will find a variety of food choices from local restaurants with some scrumptious food to a high-end restaurants serving some of the best international dishes that you can imagine so it’s up to you to choose the one that caters your taste and budget.
